To the residents of Algies Bay:

It was pleasing to see a full house at the yacht club for the defibrillator demonstration recently and from several requests we can now provide you with some further helpful information as found on the NZRC website.

Each has a link to the internet to familiarize yourself with the steps needed to help in a time of emergency.

This should then help you recognize what to do in the chain of survival.

THE CHAIN OF SURVIVAL

The 5 links in the adult Chain of Survival are

Immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of the emergency response system

 • Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with an emphasis on chest compressions

Rapid defibrillation
Effective advanced life support
Integrated post-cardiac arrest care
